City Weekend Plans – The Chotiari Dam (2011)

Nature at its best. A sanctuary for migratory birds. A testing ground for killing machines. A heaven for star gazers. Home to different species of fish. Chotiari Dam is a rare ecosystem consisting of wetlands, crocodiles, wild boar, migratory birds, lakes and marshes. So entrench deep into the wild nature. Sleep under the starry night. Try to Identify various constellations. Different cultures have identified them differently, connecting the dots according to their liking. Connect dots yourself. It is much easier doing that in Chotiari Dam.

Drive from Karachi to Nawabshah on Super highway. Take the road to Sanghar from Nawabshah. After driving past Jam Sahab head to Mund Jamrao. From there the dam is not far. You need to know people. Local people. For reasonable amount they can arrange boat ride, night stay in one of the islands. Apparently WWF has a hut on other side of Chotiari dam which can be booked from Karachi. Will post the link once I get the detail.

. Note the difference between pictures in both posts. See the difference which recent floods have made to the landscape in Sindh.
