An unlikely place to be at. Jackson Police Station. Founded in 1924, it probably is the oldest surviving police station in Karachi. I had no means to confirm this fact by not-so-interested-in-history policemen at Jackson Police Station. But they certainly took pride in working at such an old landmark. They took even more pride in the wooden staircase leading to the first floor and an old weird looking piece of equipment installed on the first floor.
“But what exactly is it”, I asked
No one had an answer. It certainly was installed firmly so no one has been able to detach it from the wall. The walls were painted recently and doors seem to be a recent replacement. They had ruined the aesthetics. It was a beautiful building nonetheless but in dire needs for repairs. The police station must have been built along with the expansion which saw magnificent landmarks such as Mules Mansion built in the vicinity. The adjoining buildings were constructed in the same time period and were used for housing families of policemen working there.
