City Life – Visiting Holy Swords

Teen Talwar Before - Photo Credits: Adnan Asim

Since childhood I associated Teen Talwar with Jinnah’s motto of Unity, Faith and Discipline. I had this conviction so strong that I never noticed vanishing ink over white marble. It went so well.

Three Founding Prinicples of the nation.

Three Swords.

However I did not notice that three other words went well with it too; Subhanallah, Alhamdullilah and Allahu Akbar.

Three Words for Praising God.

Three Founding Prinicples of the nation.

But only Three Swords.

There was not any option but to share the space now. There is some other holy text on the middle sword as well. Adorned with holy words, the original message has been subverted, delivering which was the primary purpose. I wonder what would children make out of it now. Which words would they associate three swords with?

Somehow, to me, it summarizes the story of our country.
