It is amazing how Karachi landscape and life style changes every kilometer. From Kemari to Clifton, From Clifton to Defence, From Defence to Korangi, From Korangi to Ibrahim Haidri. Vibrant and Colorful. Karachi at its best. Ibrahim Haidri is one of the oldest settlements in what became Karachi City. Due to the creek and abundant mangroves, it offered a steady source of living for the settlers. It still is a busy fish harbor.
Ibrahim Haidery is a small fishing harbor, catering to various fishing trawlers. You have to drive straight from Korangi interchange if you are coming from Sharah-e-faisal. Take the road from ‘naala’ and head to CBM/Parco road. It will take you around half an hour to reach PAF base in Korangi. Road will turn left and after endless twists and turns on a speed breaker infested road, you will reach the harbor. In the process, the street will get narrower and narrower. Don’t creep out. It will end up leading to the dock. Don’t expect a grand dock though. Its quite humble.
Almost all Ibrahim Hyderi residents are one way or another dependent on the harbor for making their living. They fill different steps of the supply Chain, from knitting the net to building the boats. And what they create is a piece of art, comparable to the indigenous truck art. You will see all sizes of boats, small, large, extra large!
Walk down the promenade. See the boats embarking on their journey. Mangroves standing still in the backdrop. Much maligned Karkey ship up close. Sun setting in the distance. Its beautiful down here. Subhanallah. Glory be to God.
